Unlike duct-based systems that push heated and cooled air through your house, a ductless system (also known as a ductless mini-split) delivers heated or cooled air directly to the rooms in your home. The system uses an outdoor unit and one or more indoor air handlers to deliver energy-efficient heating and cooling. A ductless system can be a smart solution if you have a small addition to your home or an older home that lacks ductwork.
We have installed a variety of ductless systems in homes and offices, including those with new additions. These systems can also be used to reclaim four-season rooms or attics; boost the comfort in a garage converted into an office, workout room, or home theater; and make smaller areas of your house more comfortable.
Ductless systems are easy to install because no ductwork is required. They also are easier to maintain than a traditional AC or heat pump because they don’t have ducts that can collect and circulate bacteria, dust, and other microorganisms that may affect indoor air quality.

The controls for a ductless system are very simple as well. When the thermostat calls for either heating or cooling, the system will start up. One important thing to remember when considering a ductless split system is that the person who installs it will need to have a refrigerant handling license as they will be working with refrigerant. This is to ensure that they are licensed to handle, transport, and dispose of this potentially hazardous material.
The radiator is the most important part of your car’s cooling system since it blows away heat and coolant before they enter the engine. It is located at the front of the vehicle, and it looks like a grid with extremely thin fins. If it becomes faulty, it will prevent your engine from running properly, which can damage it.
Radiators need to be bled regularly to remove air trapped inside the tubes. This can cause them to make strange noises or have an uneven temperature, both of which can indicate that there are leaks. A liquid solution called a radiator stop leak can be used to repair a leak. However, it is best not to use it on a cracked radiator because it can gum up internal parts, blocking channels and reducing coolant flow. A permanent repair would require soldering or welding the radiator to a solid piece of metal.
When soldering or welding the radiator, it is important to heat the entire area to which you are applying the metal. It is also helpful to apply the solder or weld on the surface that will be touching the metal so that the two surfaces can bond well. When you have finished repairing the radiator, it is a good idea to grind down the soldered area to remove burrs and sharp edges that might interfere with your coolant system’s function.
The water pump ensures enough coolant liquid circulates the engine and radiator to remove heat generated by the pistons and cylinder heads. Over time, the pump may develop a leak that causes a loss of coolant to the engine. This leaves the engine without adequate cooling, resulting in overheating.
The first sign of a failed water pump is usually a puddle of engine coolant beneath the vehicle. Another symptom is overheating, especially at lower speeds or while idling. If you hear a high-pitched whining noise when driving, it is likely caused by a loose pulley or a worn bearing that operates the water pump.
A leaking seal or shaft damage will also cause the pump to fail. Running without a functioning water pump can ruin the engine and lead to a very expensive internal repair bill.
If you suspect your car’s water pump is leaking, you need to bring it into an auto body shop as soon as possible. The mechanic can replace the faulty water pump and prevent the problem from getting worse by replacing the damaged parts with new ones.
When installing a new pump, follow the repair manual for the procedure to avoid re-leaking. Start with the engine cold and drain any residual engine coolant from the reservoir or radiator. Then raise the vehicle on jack stands and carefully loosen the bolts that hold the water pump to the engine block or timing cover. Be sure to catch any engine coolant that spills, and always use latex gloves and protective eyewear.
Before removing the drive belt, make a note of how it is routed, using a diagram found under the hood or a photo of the assembly. Put all the fasteners from each part in a Ziploc bag and label it so they go back together the way you took them apart. This will help prevent the possibility of missing a nut or bolt.
Remove the water pump mounting bolts, then the bolts that attach the fan clutch or a drive pulley, if equipped. Often, the pump will come with a gasket and an O ring that should be installed. Reinstalling these items is simply a reverse of the removal steps, but be careful not to overtighten, as this could cause the pump to fail or leak.
